Nairobi
ProfileOngata Rongai borders Nairobi National Park to the West. It is a constant hive of activity and is one of the fastest growing hoods in the country. The town is constantly in full swing. A lot of people love Rongai because of its reasonable rental rates. Public Transport is plenty. However, traffic jams along this route can be quite a nightmare.
Several banks are in the area including Co-operative Bank, National Bank, I&M, Kenya Commercial, Standard Chartered and Barclays , indicative of how lucrative this hood is perceived to be. Tuskys supermarket serves Ongata Rongai alongside many other smaller supermarkets.
High cost and quality schools are located with the neighborhood. The Africa Nazarene University is just three kilometres from the main Rongai-Kiserian road. Others in the vicinity include the Multi-Media University, Kenya College of Communication and Technology, Brookhouse School and Banda School.
Aga Khan University Hospital Clinic and Sinai Mount Hospital are among a host of heath centres that serve the area. A local police divisional headquarters and the Rongai police station are located in the middle of the shopping centre.
With the increasing popularity of this neighborhood, property prices have risen over the years. Properties range from an eighth of an acre of land to several hundreds further south. Land is more expensive around the shopping centre and reduces by half or more as you move further away from the main road.
Ongata Rongai has one of the best rental rates and one can easily find a newly construced one to four bedroom homes.
Eastleigh
ProfileEastleigh is a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. It is located east of the central business district. Like most eastern suburbs in Nairobi, its residents represent mostly the middle class. Many Somali refugees have settled in Eastleigh.
Eastleigh has become an international business center with bustling and booming imported products from China, Dubai,India and Thailand. Since 1992, numerous expansive shopping centers have come up. The shopping complexes prominently known as Garissa Lodge, supply clothing, electronics and other goods supplied to the rest of the African continent.
Eastleigh was founded in 1921. The colonial government allotted Nairobi's residential estates by race, and Eastleigh was set aside for Asians and elite Africans [1]. Eastleigh was originally a large Kenyan Asian enclave until independence in 1963 and after their migration en masse, the majority of houses by 1970 were owned by Kikuyu landlords but there was a significant Somali presence at the time.
Eastleigh hosts numerous primary and secondary schools. Although roads leading to Eastleigh from its surrounding areas are in good shape, those within and around the shopping complex are badly beaten. Various matatu lines cut through the 1st and 2nd avenues, the two major roads in the area.
The Eastleigh Airport (Moi Air Base) is located in northern part of Eastleigh.
Administratively, Eastleigh is divided into Eastleigh North and Eastleigh South. Both are part of the Pumwani division of Nairobi. Within Eastleigh, there are three sections and these are Section I from Juja Road, Section II, where most of the activities of Eastleigh takes place, and finally, Section II towards Jomo Kenyatta Airport (JKIA).
Eastleigh is sometimes referred to as a 'city within a city." for simply having all the amenity of a city. The unfortunate thing is that Eastleigh nowadays has no government services or any sort of sound public services from sewage to proper schools. This section of Nairobi deserves even its own higher education and a major medical facility and some sort of government offices for the simple fact of having such a huge population.

Property experts are predicting a rise in prices of residential properties in Syokimau with the completion of Mombasa dual highway in sight. Some are buying land and constructing houses in readiness for occupation as numerous businesses and industries are expanding along the modern dual carriage- Mombasa highway. Nearly all players in property business see the Mombasa Road stretch along Syokimau, Mlolongo, Kenchic and branching off to Kitengela as the hottest-spot in town.
Fuelling the demand are the prospects of the modern highway and construction of bypasses linking the road to strategic towns like Namanga—a border town. The area’s location in relation to the airport, the planned construction of five-star hotels, world-class entertainment facility and its relative short distance from Central Business District (CBD)are some of the key reasons real estate players are putting forth as the cause of rise in demand.
Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) and other leading realtors says the Mombasa Road Stretch to Athi River region has the best property prospects to anybody wishing to put up property either for personal occupation or for speculative purposes.
